State Representative and candidate for Congressional District 25 Luis Garcia issued the following statement in response to Mitt Romney’s comments that he would veto the DREAM Act if he were elected and Congress passed the bill.   Statement from Rep. Luis Garcia:   “The DREAM Act has been supported by people from both sides of the aisle. Garcia, Jr., Florida House of Representatives, District 107 Ranking Member, Federal Affairs Subcommittee; Education Committee; Agriculture & Natural Resources Appropriations Subcommittee; Agriculture & Natural Resources Subcommittee October 31, 2011 Dear President Haridopolos and Speaker Cannon: Last week, I sent you a letter concerning the shameful remarks made by Sen. However, turning a blind eye to the disrespectful remarks made by Sen. Hays is troubling. I am deeply...

Rep. Luis R. Garcia, Jr. on the 2011 budget vetoes

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – State Representative Luis R. Garcia, Jr. (D-Miami) issued the following statement on the 2011 budget vetoes. “I am extremely outraged by Governor Rick Scott’s veto today of over twenty-five million dollars from Miami-Dade area programs. His vetoes make further cuts to Miami-Dade senior programs, medical research and social endeavors. April 25: Florida Anti-Immigration Arizona Copycat Bill Protest Rally

Join Us at: 1465 SW 8th Street, Suite 106 Little Havana, Miami FL 33135   NO: Arizona Copycat Anti-Immigration Bill in Florida! Sen. Anitere Flore’s bill, SB 2040, pushes all counties in Florida to implement the controversial 287 (g) immigration program, which turns all local law enforcement into immigration agents. With these powers, local police can ask anyone for papers regardless of their status. Just like Sheriff Joe Arpaio does in Arizona. This bill also mandates “e-verify” for all businesses under the threat of license revocation. This is a reprehensible exploitation of immigrants for political gain. It will inevitably...
