PRESIDENT OBAMA HAS TAKEN HISTORIC STEPS TO MOVE AMERICA FORWARD, CREATING JOBS AND FIGHTING FOR THE MIDDLE CLASS
Promoting Jobs: President Obama has presided over 18 consecutive months of private-sector job growth, during which time the economy has added 2.4 million private sector jobs, and presented the American Jobs Act to put more people back to work and put more money in the pockets of working Americans.
The Recovery Act: President Obama signed into law the American recovery and reinvestment act, which stopped the hemorrhaging of hundreds of thousands of jobs lost each month, boosted GDP and created or saved as many as 3.6 million jobs through the start of 2011.
Tax Cuts for the Middle Class: President Obama has signed into law dozens of tax cuts, cutting taxes for 95% of Americans, reducing the amount of federal taxes Americans are paying to the lowest level since 1950.
Credit Card Reform: President Obama signed into law the Credit CARD act, which saves the average consumer hundreds of dollars per year by preventing credit card companies from imposing unfair and deceptive fees, penalties and rate increases on cardholders.
Auto-Industry Loans: President Obama took action to save the auto industry from collapse, preventing the loss of more than 1.4 million jobs. Now, GM and Chrysler are stronger than ever and have paid taxpayers back for their investment that kept jobs here at home.
Wall Street Reform: President Obama signed into law landmark consumer protections and financial reforms which shield American families from unfair lending practices, reins in the excesses of Wall Street, and works to prevent future financial crises.
Affordable Care Act: President Obama signed into law landmark health care reform which holds insurance companies accountable, prevents insurance companies from discriminating against people with pre-existing conditions, lowers health care costs for all, and enhances the quality of health care for all Americans.
Children’s Health Insurance: The President re-authorized the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (S-CHIP), expanding health insurance for four million more low income children.
REINVESTING IN AMERICA
Student Loan Reform: President Obama made a college education accessible to millions more students, by doubling funding for Pell grants, and ending billions of dollars in federal subsidies to banks acting as middlemen, which made college loans more affordable.
Preparing Students To Compete In A Global Marketplace: The Obama Administration instituted the Race To The Top Program which helped to raise K-12 standards for teaching and learning in 40 states.
Building A Clean Energy Economy: President Obama launched a series of initiatives to reduce our dependence on imported oil and to promote new clean energy technologies, creating or saving up to 225,000 jobs.
KEEPING AMERICA SAFE AND HONORING OUR VETERANS
Keeping America Safe: The President has ended combat operations In Iraq, is responsibly drawing down forces in Afghanistan, and ordered the operation that killed Osama Bin Laden.
Repealing Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell: President Obama stood firm in his commitment to protecting civil rights and strengthening America’s military by repealing Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, which will enable individuals to serve in the American military regardless of their sexual orientation.
Expanding The Post 9/11 GI Bill: President Obama signed into law an update to the post-9/11 G.I. bill, which extends more G.I. Bill benefits to National Guard members who’ve performed active service, allows for education benefits to be transferred to family members, and expands flexibility for distance learners and less than full-time students.
PROMOTING A FAIR AND JUST AMERICA
Fair Pay for Women: President Obama signed into law the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, which gives women greater tools to demand equal pay for equal work from their employers.
Hate Crimes Prevention Act: President Obama signed into law the Matthew Shepard & James Boyd, Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act, protecting young people from crimes based on their sexual orientation, gender identity, race, or disability.
Immigration Reform: President Obama is dedicated to promoting comprehensive immigration reform, fought for the DREAM Act, and has refocused our deportation policy to focus on criminals who pose a safety threat, rather than people who pose no risk to the safety and security of The United States.
Diversity: President Obama has created the most diverse administration in American history, to form a government which truly represents the American people. The President successfully nominated two women to The Supreme Court, including the first Hispanic Supreme Court justice, and has appointed women to some of the highest ranking positions in his Administration, including Secretary of State and Secretary of Homeland Security.
